Justin Hojlo, a Recovery Case Manager at Green Mountain Treatment Center, is another great example of the compassionate “real people” team we have at Granite Recovery Centers. Like many of our team, Justin once struggled with drug addiction, and now, recovered, he helps others get well. Here’s Justin’s story:

Everyone here has had the same experience as you

Everyone at this treatment center has been through the same experience you have been through. We’ve been through treatment center after treatment center after treatment center. With no hope. Some of us enter treatment as opioid addicts, as alcoholics, cocaine users. But at the end of the day, it’s all the same. We offer abstinence-based programs for long-term sobriety. The abstinence-based program is the only solution that’s ever worked for me.

This community gave me the confidence I needed

Here, we talk about the community. We talk about a group of people coming together with one purpose in mind. And the amazing thing about that is the friendships that are built. Some of the bonds that I’ve made in sobriety, and made through the community that I integrated back into, are the strongest bonds that I’ve ever made. What the community really did for me was gave me confidence, confidence in who I was, to go and face those fears, and get out there.

I was incredibly uncomfortable with who I was…

Early in recovery, the most difficult thing is the discomfort. In treatment, we talk about the R.I.D. (the restless, the irritable, the discontent). I got sober and I was incredibly uncomfortable with who I was as an individual. And I saw no light at the end of the tunnel. But GRC and the 12 Steps gave me hope. They gave me the thought that it’s possible to live a life free of substance abuse. I thought I was going to be a heroin user for the rest of my life… I thought drugs and alcohol were going to control me for the rest of my life…

And today, when I wake up, I’m not craving a drink or drug

Today, I wake up, I go to bed and I’m not craving a drink or a drug. The relationships I have around me are amazing. And at the end of the day, one’s quality of life is based upon the quality of those relationships. With the way I live my life on a daily basis, I can actually carry myself with integrity. I can be truthful. I can be honest. Not only did the 12 Steps at Granite Recovery Centers give me community; it made me who I am today. If you or your loved one is dealing with a drug or alcohol addiction, please call our admissions specialists at 855.712.7784 .
