While the overarching goal of inpatient drug rehabs is to help the patient get and remain sober, treatment programs vary can vary greatly in length of stay and treatment approach.
Residential Detox Programs

Evidence-Based Clinical Therapies
Inpatient drug rehab centers vary according to which overall treatment approaches and clinical therapies they implement to help clients work through and process the thoughts and feelings related to their substance use. Granite Recovery Centers utilizes both individual and group therapy sessions that help the clients understand the nature and triggers of their drug or alcohol addiction. Clinical modalities may include CBT, DBT, and trauma therapy. Licensed clinicians conduct clinical therapies at GRC.
12-Step Integration
Drug and alcohol residential treatment programs also vary in their disposition on 12-Step programming. The 12 Steps of A.A. is a curriculum through which alcoholics and drug addicts work their way through the nature, triggers, behaviors, and effects of their substance use disorder to ultimately achieve a daily design for sober living. Few facilities integrate the 12 Steps as comprehensively throughout their treatment program as does Granite Recovery, where the 12 Steps are core to our approach to addiction treatment.

Abstinence vs. Harm Reduction
Residential drug rehabilitation programs are either abstinence-based or harm-reductive. The abstinence approach requires the client to cease using drugs and alcohol completely. No exceptions. The harm-reduction approach will substitute drugs such as methadone or Suboxone for heroin use to wean the client off of the harder substance. Clients in harm reduction programs will sometimes use the substituted drug permanently. At Granite Recovery Centers, we create a treatment plan that draws from both approaches to help every client remain substance-free throughout treatment and beyond.
Recovery Goal-Setting and Discharge Planning
From intake to discharge, a multidisciplinary treatment team of clinicians, 12-Step facilitators, and case workers work with clients to identify potential problems, implement therapies, chart progress, set goals, and develop discharge plans. Based on each client’s progress in the program and their ability to meet the goals that they set for themselves, our team of professionals will determine if the client is ready to “step down” to an extended care or sober living facility, or if they should continue residential treatment for a longer period of time. In most cases, clients will be referred to one of our extended care or sober living facilities or to our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), as research shows that there is a direct relation between length of stay in any treatment program and a lasting recovery.
