Gender-Specific Extended Care for Women

Granite House for Women is a drug rehab extended care facility for women ages 18 and up and is situated in historic downtown Derry, New Hampshire. Granite House for Women is a structured and supportive extended care facility that helps women build life skills and maintain sobriety after primary drug rehab. The program employs a unique three-phased approach that helps clients continue 12-Step work, develop life skills for career and daily living, and promote a smooth transition back to fully independent living. Granite House for Women provides a vital extension of the support started in residential treatment and allows clients to implement the lessons and skills learned there.

Our Three-Phased Program

Phase 1:  Continued 12-Step Immersion and Clinical Therapy

In Phase 1, clients begin building a solid foundation for recovery with a full weekly schedule that includes participation in 12-Step meetings and workshops along with various house meetings and group sessions. Clients also benefit from peer sponsorship, access to a gym, yoga, meditation, and other group activities.

Phase 2:  Building Real World Life Skills

In Phase 2, life skill-building lessons are introduced including money and time management, resume building, employment and interviewing advice, and career opportunities.

Phase 3:  Preparing for Independent Living

In Phase 3, lessons and skills are put to the test as clients are encouraged to implement them in real world situations. Clients in Phase 3 take on regular work, run groups with peers, mentor new residents, and participate in groups focused on developing additional skills needed to re-enter mainstream society.

This three-phased approach challenges clients to meet multiple short-term goals in order to build the skills needed to achieve and sustain sobriety. Each success in discipline, decision-making, and problem-solving contributes to the client’s new self-concept, outlook on their own potential, maintained sobriety, and inner strength.

Holistic Therapies

Clients at The Granite House for Women participate in meditation, yoga, and gym time. Indoor and outdoor sports and team-based activities are a part of the holistic program as well. Clients also participate in experiential/adventure-based activities like skiing, snowboarding, rock-climbing, paintball, and basketball. Team-based experiences such as these help build trust, strengthen peer relationships and hone individual problem-solving skills — all of which serve to strengthen mind, body, and spirit.
