Whether you are taking a high dosage of a prescription medication or find that you are consuming much more alcohol than you should be, it’s important that you obtain treatment as soon as possible. No matter the severity of your substance use disorder, this disorder can lead to many health problems and consequences to your livelihood. As the disorder worsens, you may begin to experience financial problems, relationship issues, and difficulties with completing your work or school responsibilities.

Once you admit that you have a problem, there are numerous treatment options available to you, which include everything from medical detoxification to inpatient rehabilitation. However, these treatments can sometimes be costly without insurance coverage. If you need assistance with the expenses pertaining to treatment, make sure that you find out if your insurance provider offers coverage for substance use disorder treatments. The following provides a comprehensive look at the Well Sense insurance provider and the coverage that they provide for substance use disorders.

What Is Well Sense?

Well Sense is a health insurance provider that focuses on supporting the prescription drug, behavioral health, and medical needs of Medicaid members who live in New Hampshire. When you become a Medicaid member, you’ll find that there are two separate health insurance plans that you can select from, one of which is the Well Sense Health Plan. When you enroll in this plan, you’ll be provided with access to an expansive network of hospitals, pharmacies, and doctors.

As mentioned previously, Well Sense focuses on providing coverage for behavioral health, which includes treatment for a substance use disorder. If you’re unsure if you are currently experiencing a substance use disorder, the primary symptoms that you should be on the lookout for include:

  • Using substances in hazardous situations
  • Lacking motivation
  • Being anxious or paranoid without reason
  • Sudden attitude and personality changes
  • Changes in sleep patterns
  • Severe mood swings
  • Sudden weight gain or weight loss
  • Tremors or poor coordination
  • A worsened physical appearance
  • Legal problems pertaining to substance use
  • Financial problems
  • Continuing to use substances even after they have caused issues with your health or relationships

Anyone who becomes a member of Well Sense will gain access to over 2,000 doctors throughout New Hampshire. There are also several additional benefits that are provided to members, which extend to free dental kits, money back for joining certain health programs, free car seats and booster seats, and free bike helmets for children.

Before you learn more about the comprehensive coverage that’s available through Well Sense, you should first determine if you’re eligible for these benefits. In order to qualify for New Hampshire Medicaid, you will need to be a resident of the state who is in need of health care or insurance assistance. Your financial situation will need to be deemed as very low income or low income. To be eligible, you must be 65 years of age or older, a parent or caretaker of dependent children below the age of 19, pregnant, or disabled.

As for the Well Sense Health Plan, you are eligible for this plan as long as you are qualified for New Hampshire Medicaid, are a U.S. citizen, and currently live in New Hampshire. With this information in mind, you should be ready to apply for coverage through Well Sense.

For inpatient mental health services, this particular plan covers the evaluation and treatment of an acute psychiatric condition, a psychiatric consultation within an inpatient medical unit, and rehabilitation services in a residential facility. There is currently no limit on the number of days that you can remain in an inpatient facility while receiving coverage from Well Sense.

Treatments Provided by Granite Recovery Centers

Granite Recovery Centers is comprised of 12 drug rehab facilities, which include two inpatient programs. Our comprehensive clinical treatment program is based on the 12-step curriculum. The evidence-based treatment provided at our facilities includes dialectical behavior therapy, trauma therapy, grief and loss therapy, and cognitive behavioral therapy. The goal of these treatments is to make sure that individuals who are experiencing a substance use disorder are able to better understand the triggers and origins of their substance use.

When you enroll in one of the programs available through Granite Recovery Centers, you can also receive treatment for co-occurring mental disorders, which ensures that both the substance use and mental disorder can be treated at the same time. The full continuum of care that we administer to individuals who enter this program include:

  • Medical drug and alcohol detox (Granite Recovery Centers provides medical detoxification for people who do not need immediate medical intervention, are not a danger to themselves, and are capable of self-evacuation in the event of an emergency.)
  • Initial residential treatment
  • Extended care as needed
  • Structured sober living once the first wave of treatment has been provided
  • Intensive outpatient treatment

When you attend one of our residential treatment programs, you will be provided with a range of individual and group therapies, which include family therapy. The people who are with you during group therapy can provide you with a strong support group. Along with being immersed in the 12-step program, residents are required to perform simple chores, avoid using drugs or alcohol during treatment, and be accountable for their actions.

If you require medical detoxification for the drugs or alcohol that you were using, it’s important to understand that this is typically the first aspect of treatment for a substance use disorder. It’s during this process that the drugs will be fully removed from your system. If you obtain this treatment at a residential facility, medical staff will be on hand 24/7 to make sure that the withdrawal symptoms you experience never become too severe. The duration of this phase of treatment depends on the severity of the substance use disorder.

As for extended care, it’s usually provided to individuals who have completed the initial residential treatment program. The four extended care facilities available through Granite Recovery Centers are designed to provide support and therapy that center around solidifying sober living concepts. Sober living homes are aimed at providing individuals in early recovery with a place to live that offers a drug-free environment. Intensive outpatient treatment is also available as the final step of treatment. During this phase, you should learn how to manage your substance use disorder while being fully immersed in the real world.

Keep in mind that the majority of programs offered by Granite Recovery Centers focus on providing clients with individualized care, which means that the treatments you obtain will focus on the specific problems that you’re going through. It’s also important to understand that not everyone will need to obtain all of these treatments. If you have a minor substance use disorder, it may be enough for you to attend detox and inpatient rehab before getting back into the real world. On the other hand, outpatient treatment, sober living, and extended care may be necessary to help you avoid relapse.

If you’re currently making a decision on whether or not you should obtain treatment, make sure that you contact your insurance provider to determine the amount of coverage that’s available to you. Once you have this information, you will be able to identify the level of care that’s needed. With the Well Sense Health Care Plan, the majority of the services you require should be partially or fully covered.

Now that you fully understand which services are covered by Well Sense, we hope you feel better prepared to obtain treatment and care for your substance use disorder. The treatment that’s administered to you should help you learn how to manage the cravings you experience while also giving you the information you need to better understand why you were using these substances in the first place.
